Subject: RE: Jimmy and I Send Our Best To Heleena:
Dear Bruce,
Heleen came awake from her coma a good week ago. Shortly after I had to return home, but I am planning to go back soon. The process or regaining full consciousness is slow. She makes a lot of cramped movements that she does not seem to master with her mind yet. Also she does not yet speak. On the sunny side, the doctors say that it is all within the normal limits of a patient recovering from a brain trauma. They remain confident that she can make a full recovery. They started some physiotherapy for her. She appears to recognise most of us and she obeys orders on command, for example if you ask to squeeze her hand, she does. And she says yes by blinking her eyes or acknowledging with a smile. Also, they took her off the respirator three days ago.
We keep our fingers crossed that she will get back to normal.
Thank Jimmy and yourself for your compasssion.
Wim

Subject: Re: Jimmy and I Send Our Best To Heleena:
Dear Mr. Wim Dankbaar:
Wim - I hope that Heleena continues to progress. As I can recall, when I could begin some movement and light physiotherapy is when I think that I started to get better. My memory is not "real memory," rather is is "improvised memory" of what I was told over and over of what happened and how I progressed those first few weeks and months. I certainly don't recall the surgeries for my two (2) broken arms, and two (2) broken legs, and body cast, head, face, crushed legs, burns, cuts, gashes, etc. I have those pictures of me, which I showed you. But there was never "real memory," then or even today. To this day I don't remember much/most of what happened.
Although Jimmy was going to write you, and send you a card, we decided to wait for a while because you had been in Spain, and we only have your Holland address. In addition, during this time, I can send you an email more quickly for both of us. And since I live 10 - 20 minutes from Jimmy, I can be there "instantly," tell him, communicate with you, and keep a quick, complete circle of communication. And when you are settled, and hopefully Heleena is improving even more, as I am confident that she will, you will have time to appreciate a letter and card from Jimmy at your home in Holland.
I am going to have a Special All Day Meeting with Jimmy today as it is Saturday, and "we secretly" arrange 6 - 8 hour meetings generally 1 - 2 days a month. I usually spread all of the visits throughout the month.
Anyway, I will tell Jimmy today of very positive signs and strong hope for Heleena.
Wim I am so Very Happy for Heleena, you, Wim, your mother, Eric, and your entire family and close friends.
Wim, she suffered not amputations, and it looks as promising as possible.
As far as her movement, remember that before my accident, I could Bench Press 350 pounds, and Karate Chop and Punch through numerous boards and bricks. When I began my first physiotherapy, I used rubber bands to exercise my fingers.
I tell you this to give you very real, serious hope. You saw me live almost eight (8) years after my ordeal. And you saw my real pictures. That is why they nicknamed me Bionic Bruce in the 8 - 9 hospitals and surgery centers that I was at over two (2) years.
Wim I look forward to us sitting and eating together, you with your wine, and me with my ice-tea, relieved that Heleena has come through this tunnel of problems.
Be confident. Be strong. She is not dead. She is not burned, or scarred. She is not amputated.
My Friend, rejoice at these positive things.
SHE CAN, AND WILL PULL THROUGH ALL OF THIS. SIX (6) MONTHS OR SO DOWN THE ROAD YOU WILL LOOK BACK AT HER MAJOR PROGRESS WITH DELIGHT.
I do so wish, hope, and pray to the Great Spirit that all possible Blessings and Miracles come to Heleena, and your entire family, and Eric.
I am leaving for my Weekend Meeting/Retreat with Jimmy.
Keep me informed, as Jimmy and I both care for Heleena's progress.
Respectfully,
Bruce Patrick Brychek.
